There are a couple of MSBO events that top my list of things I want to share with members. The “official” start of planning the annual conference has begun and the deadline is approaching for members to be considered by the Nominations Committee as a candidate for the MSBO Board of Directors.
Nominations first. I encourage members who are interested in the experience of serving on the MSBO Board of Directors to reach out to me and other board members and ask us about our experience. It is an opportunity for you to participate in the governance of MSBO, which is so much more than you think.
Board members set policy and direction of MSBO. Many former board members have often said it is important for them to “give back,” and have found their experience on the board to be enriching. I know I have. In addition to giving back, I have made many connections, developed many friendships that will last a lifetime, and have developed my own leadership to be better in my district.
There are more details concerning roles and responsibilities of board members, election guidelines, and the nomination process on the Governance page on the MSBO website. Remember the deadline is December 1 to reach out to Nominations Committee Chair Bill Chatfield.
The MSBO Leadership Conference, which includes regional presidents, committee chairs, and board members, recently met to begin planning for the MSBO Annual Conference & Exhibit Show and professional development. These members play a crucial role in finalizing session content for the conference.
Yes, the MSBO Annual Conference & Exhibit Show will be in person in 2022! We will have the opportunity to learn together, network with colleagues from around the state, and visit with vendors at the exhibit hall and evening venues.
I want to say thank you to MSBO Board Member Julie Williams-Muz, Board Associate Member Representative Ed Stasiak, and MSBO School Finance Services Committee Chair Stacey Viers for their presentation on culture and leadership. They highlighted the role of culture, wherever you may work, and how critical it is to success.
The bottom line is that leaders need to be self-aware, open-minded, and committed to investing the time in creating that positive culture. We all have a role. We spend a lot of time with our work family and through that role, if we can improve and/or enhance the culture within our districts, it can make “work” a better place to be every day.
Stay tuned. The Nominations Committee’s slate of candidates for the MSBO Board of Directors will be announced in January. Hotel room reservations begin in December and registration for the 2022 MSBO Annual Conference & Exhibit Show begins in February. The Conference itself will be held April 26-28, 2022.
