Michigan School Business Officials (MSBO) is committed to protecting the privacy of its members. This policy covers how MSBO handles personal information collected and received from or through our websites, online membership portal and our online community. 

Information Collected 

MSBO collects and utilizes different kinds of information from users of MSBO websites, online membership portal and our online community. 

The information we collect will depend upon what you do when visiting our sites. Except as stated in this policy, we will not collect personally identifiable information about you when you visit our sites unless you choose to provide such information to us. Personal information provides us with aggregate demographic data that MSBO uses to improve the services offered to members. Providing demographic information to MSBO is optional. This information is kept confidential by MSBO and is used for internal purposes. We will use commercially reasonable efforts to ensure that demographics do not identify any specific user. 

We may ask for your address, phone number, and/or email address when you place an order for an MSBO product or service, when you complete a survey, register for a conference, or on other occasions. In each case, our objective is to have your contact information so we can serve you better. We do not share personal data, including phone numbers or email addresses, or consent with third parties or affiliates.  

If you’re paying for registrations and products with a credit card, we will also collect your credit card number (employing industry standard security and encryption technologies), billing information, and e-mail address to process your payment. 

From time to time, we may use your address, phone number, or email address to provide you with updates and other information we think may be of interest to you. 

We collect the email addresses of those who communicate with us via email. We do not sell any email addresses to any third party. 

The MSBO website contains links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such other sites. We encourage you to review and understand the privacy practices of any website before providing them  with any personal information. 

Disclosures Required by Law 

We don’t rent, sell, or share personal information about you with other people or nonaffiliated companies except to provide products or services you have requested, when we have your permission, or under the following circumstances: 

(a) We respond to subpoenas, court orders or legal process, or to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims; 

(b) We believe it is necessary to share information in order to investigate, prevent or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, or as otherwise required by law. 

Children’s Information and COPPA 

MSBO’s website is not designed or intended for use by children under 18.  MSBO does not knowingly collect personal information on children. The content of our website and the products and services available are not intended for, or directed to, children. If you are under 18 years of age, please do not use or access our website at any time or in any manner.  

User Options – Opt Out 

A user may opt to cease receiving future promotional mailings by sending an email to msboinfo@msbo.org and including his or her full name, User ID (if applicable), email address, and the mailing he or she no longer wishes to receive in the subject or message area. MSBO reserves the right to send all users nonpromotional email related to business practice and systems operations even if the user has opted out of promotional mailings. 

Users may change their personal information at any time by using the provided interface once they are logged in and as often as necessary. If users are unable to log in and change their information themselves, they will be able to send an email to info@msbo.org or contact us at the telephone number or address above for assistance. 

Visiting our website and providing personal information sufficient to be able to email information to you will be sufficient to create an existing business relationship with you for purposes of complying with the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 regarding unsolicited commercial email. 

Cookies 

MSBO’s website does not use cookies. 

Security 

Some areas of the MSBO website and the online portal are secured and can only be accessed by using a specific user ID and a password. For security reasons, do not share your user ID or password. Users may change their personal information at any time by using the provided interface once they are logged in and as often as necessary. If users are unable to log in and change their information themselves, they will be able to send an email to msboinfo@msbo.org or contact us at the telephone number or address above for assistance. 

MSBO undertakes reasonable efforts to ensure that all personally identifiable information collected on our site remains secure. Internally, access to our database is restricted to those MSBO employees who need access in order to serve you. MSBO staff is trained to treat member and customer information confidentially. MSBO cannot provide a guarantee against inadvertent disclosure or intentional misappropriation of data by a third party. 

Changes to This Policy 

MSBO reserves the right to change this privacy policy at any time. Notification of changes will be posted on the MSBO website and the revised privacy policy will be effective immediately upon posting. Because these changes may affect your personal information, we suggest that you look for information regarding changes on a regular basis and review the changes as soon as they are published on the website.
