38 | The Cost of Leadership: The Paradox of Supporting Those Expected to Support Everyone Else
Department leaders are frequently encouraged to be approachable, supportive, and relationship-focused. At the same time, they are expected to make difficult decisions, navigate conflict, withstand criticism, and deliver results in increasingly complex environments. This creates a leadership paradox: the individuals expected to support teams, drive change, and absorb organizational pressure often have the fewest structured supports available to them.
