Your Path to Professional Growth: MSBO Leadership Awaits – Stephanie Weese

By Stephanie Weese, CFO, MSBO Board President, Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services, Livingston ESA

There are exciting opportunities for MSBO members across the state. Have you ever considered stepping up and taking on a leadership role?  Now is the perfect time to do so!

Serving on MSBO committees (there are 10), leading your regional group (there are 19) or running for a seat on the Board of Directors offers not only professional growth but also a chance to expand your professional network. By embracing these leadership roles, members can enhance their careers, grow their influence, and contribute to decisions that directly impact school business operations.

Committees are central to MSBO’s mission, and serving on one allows members to become involved in shaping policies and programs that benefit schools across the state. This hands-on experience fosters a deeper understanding of school business practices, which can help members refine their leadership skills. Working closely with other professionals, you can gain insights from peers and industry experts while positioning yourself as a leader in your field. Additionally, the connections you form on committees often turn into long-lasting professional relationships that support your career.

Running for the MSBO Board of Directors provides an even greater platform for leadership. As a board member, you will be directly involved in setting the strategic direction for MSBO, giving you a voice in decisions that affect all members. It’s a unique opportunity to influence the future of school business management in Michigan. In this role, you’re not only representing your district but also contributing to the advancement of best practices in educational operations statewide. Serving on the board adds excitement to your career and provides exceptional networking opportunities.

Additionally, leaders from committees, regional groups and the Board of Directors receive additional professional development through the Leadership Dimensions Conference, a dynamic event designed to sharpen leadership skills. This conference provides practical guidance, peer collaboration, and the chance to build a strong support network.  It’s an invaluable resource for those aspiring to higher leadership positions.

The application for consideration for the Board of Directors will be released soon.  If you have questions about the process or what it is like to serve on the Board, reach out to any Board member (we are all really nice, and would be happy to help answer your questions!).  To serve on a regional committee, start a conversation with the current chairperson and let them know you are interested. For the MSBO committees, talk to the current chairperson, or reach out to MSBO Executive Director Bob Dwan.
