This fantastic quote and inspirational message was shared by the amazing Tim Raymer and I am truly grateful for it. I’d never heard a quote that I felt so completely encompasses what it means to be in school business.
Each year for the conference or even branching into the committee groups, regional groups, and county-wide groups – MSBO calls on members for topics we wish to be presented on. Now this isn’t because there is a lack of available information to provide, we all know that – it’s more to see what’s out there that we’re currently struggling with or want to learn more about. The ability to learn is one thing, but the audience has to be one that is willing to learn. MSBO can put on as many conferences, trainings, webinars or certification tracks as it wants – but without members that are willing to learn, it’s pretty useless.
We as a group are the full embodiment of what it means to not wait for things to get easier. We seek out the opportunities to work with others, learn from others, share ideas or thoughts or questions to be able to handle our hard stuff better. The best part about it is that we do it as an organization comprised of individuals from such wide arrays of backgrounds, education, and even job focuses. We truly strive to knock down the silos that can sometimes be education and work together for the betterment of what we can provide for the kids in our state.
As we’re recovering from the absolutely tiresome season of budgets, audits, reports being due, more budgets and the never-ending barrage of learning – my hope is that you all remember this sentiment. Our jobs didn’t get easier, we are just learning each and every day to become the kind of people who handle hard stuff better.
