As I sit here writing this article, I wonder, where did summer go? It feels like in the blink of an eye, one school year ends and now we are back into a new school year. My kids are back to a daily routine of school and sports. Time flies – so enjoy the ride!
Take time to enjoy the little moments, celebrate not only the big wins, but the little wins. Learn from the losses. We are living in such uncertain times and our everyday world can change in the blink of an eye. One day we are mask free, the next day we are wearing masks. One day we are in school, the next day we are sending students home.
Our ultimate goal in education is to provide a safe, secure, encouraging, positive environment for students to learn in the classroom. However, this is not as easy as it once was! Be honest and encourage rather than reassure. Why would I write this? We do not know what tomorrow brings and many of our students and our children look to us to make the world a better place for them. So much is outside our control – let’s aim to help students and children focus on today and what a blessing today is.
If you conduct an Internet search on the topic of living in the present, you will find numerous websites devoted to the practice and hundreds of books on the subject. There is a reason why. Living in the present moment is a science-backed strategy that can make you happier. According to Mayo Clinic, increasing your awareness of the present moment can help you face “life’s inevitable obstacles.”
We cannot change the past nor are we guaranteed tomorrow, so let’s embrace the present! Find a way to focus on the positive, not dwell on the past or things outside our control. In a world where we cannot control everything, focus on what we can control – creating the best possible present for the children of today, so the children of tomorrow can someday embrace their present!!
