The MSBO Meridian Award of Excellence is a special recognition award acknowledging successful practices in all areas of school management and education. Selection is based on the degree to which the entry promotes and enhances the overall effective operation of a school district and is a project that could be replicated by other districts. An awards committee comprised of MSBO members chooses recipients.
The duty of reporting safety drills was the responsibility of Wayne Westland Community School’s department of instruction. It recently became the responsibility of the Maintenance, Operations and Technology Departments. Through analysis of the drills, the department found out that buildings in the district were performing and reporting safety drills differently. The problem was determined that they needed to provide a way to accurately and continuously update information district wide. This resulted in the development of the emergency dashboard — Two Clicks to Safety.
Two Clicks to Safety is an interactive, live, emergency dashboard and calendar that covers tornado, fire, lockdown, emergency evacuation, hazmat, and much more. With just two clicks of a mouse, information is available to district staff via district email authentication, which protects highly sensitive information.
It streamlines all of the safety information onto a website that allows the district to share information with local first responders. This living document provides a platform where all stakeholders have access to the same information, including any updates or changes. This innovative program ensures accuracy in reporting and keeps stakeholders in the loop.
