Becoming an Effective Leader

By: Thomas L. Armstrong, CPA, CFO, MSBO Board President, Business Manager, Fulton Public Schools

Recently, I attended the final session of the 2019 MSBO Leadership Institute.  It was great to see some folks that I know well.  It was also great getting to meet some MSBO members that I didn’t know.  It was gratifying, and fun, handing out the certificates and pins to all of the participants.

By far the best part was sitting in on that final session with the cohort.  Seeing the group interact and apply what they had learned was great.  I participated, at least a little, and I got to watch the facilitator, David Hulings, lead the discussion. The whole session was energizing and inspiring.  It brought back memories from my own experience with the Leadership Institute.

I was in the 2011-12 inaugural class of the Leadership Institute.  I have written before about what I learned from that experience and how it changed my view of leadership.  I am so pleased that our membership continues to take advantage of this program.

We all work hard to be effective, to be leaders in our districts and to be helpful to our peers.  The next Leadership Institute will begin soon,  I urge you to take a look at the program and decide if it is right for you.
