I am not sure if any of us can say we have been through a year as challenging as 2020. Sure, we have all had our life struggles and trust me; I have had my fair share! This year is different.
This year we are working through our own “normal” personal life struggles as well as our own “COVID19” personal struggles. In addition, we are working through our “normal” professional struggles and trying to maneuver the endless “COVID19” professional struggles. Some days it seems like it is too much to handle.
For me, I am good at giving others grace. I am a “caregiver” after all! However, I find myself often forgetting to give myself grace. I take pride that I have been able to handle all the challenges that have come my way. This year, however, the challenges, at times, have become too large. I know I am not alone in this. I have heard many others share this same struggle.
We need to remind ourselves that we have a team behind us. We are never alone. Our team includes so many wonderful people. For one, I am proud to be part of the MSBO team. That includes ALL of you! We need to remember to lean on others when we need to; and be strong for others when we can. I applaud you for sharing your work with others, your advice on how to handle a complicated matter, a link to where we can find more information, a spreadsheet you put together to help organize your data, and a kind word here and there to all of us who need it. I have been observing the listserv. I am so proud to be a member of this fabulous organization, and this industry.
Give grace to others AND to yourself. We are all juggling a lot. We need to do our best to let go of things we cannot control and focus on the things we can. There is light at the end of this COVID tunnel. We need to remain positive, show up and do the work, taking assistance from others when we need to and providing assistance when we can. Thank YOU for showing up each day to lead and support our schools to keep us moving forward!
