We’ve pulled together another Business Manager/CPA Workshop agenda that has everything you need to finish the year strong and start the New Year out right!
The agenda is packed with top-notch presenters and topics that are essential to your upcoming audit. Representatives from the Michigan Department of Education, audit firms and practitioners will be on hand to provide the latest information you’ll need to have a successful audit.
We’ll have updates on new audit procedures for 2013, Grant Monitoring by the Michigan Department of Education, State Aid Borrowing and Bonding changes, a State Aid Update, OMB Compliance Guidance, proper account coding and reporting, an economic update and a discussion on the receipt and payment of the MPSERS “buy-down” and how your district will need to budget and account for those funds! Still receiving the management letter comment of not having the ability to write your financial statements? Maybe you just need a refresher. Whatever the case may be, don’t put off registering for this one-day workshop, which will give you the tools you need to understand financial statement preparation. Practicing auditors will walk you through the statements and explain the fundamentals preparing your own documents for year-end.

MSBO is pleased to announce the 2013 Student Transportation Benchmarking Survey. This is part of the ongoing effort to increase the available comparative performance data and best practice information for school districts and intermediate school districts in Michigan.
This is an on-line survey, but we recommend you print it off and fill out the information prior to entering the data on-line. The survey does not allow you to save your data if you exit prior to completion, so having the form printed and filled out in advance should help streamline your submittal.

It should not take long to complete, especially if you gather your data in advance. All results will be published in comparison groups, but no individual district information will be released. The survey will be open through Friday, May 26, 2013.
Understanding transportation costs and how they compare with other district costs is essential in evaluating efficiency and provides a foundation for analysis of how districts provide service. We need maximum participation to ensure meaningful results.
