Following are comments given by MSBO Immediate Past President Cheryl Wald at MSBO's Annual Business Meeting held at Amway Grand Plaza in late April 2016. I appreciate the opportunity you have given me to serve you. Representing our organization this past year has been most challenging, motivating and exciting. I leave this position with the greatest sense of pride of having been associated with people who are dedicated to and concerned about public education in Michigan. As I complete my year as the 78th President of MSBO, I would like to reflect for just a moment. I came into this leadership role at MSBO humbled, by the tradition of strong leaders that I followed. I prepare to depart now, even more humbled by the talent, dedication, support and commitment to our districts, which I have observed. I am thankful for the opportunity to have worked with a board of directors dedicated to addressing the needs of our schools and children, looking at bringing fresh ideas on how to make our leadership organization better. Our board is comprised of individuals who are willing to look at things differently, even outside the box, to bring the best outcomes to the table, never losing focus and who we serve. We don’t just accept the status quo, rather, we have evaluated what MSBO offers and if it still makes sense. MSBO is your organization and we do our best to keep it relevant and the “go to” organization for Professional Development and timely information for each of you. It has been my privilege to represent this great organization and I thank you for believing in me to lead MSBO. When I assumed this role, following the strong leadership of my predecessors, I was prepared to explore taking our organization to places we may not have been to before or even thought of, if it served our needs. I leave the office of president, knowing that MSBO is in good hands. I will soon move into my last year of service on the board as the past president, with a sense of accomplishment that you were well represented on our board, that we listened to what you said, and tried our best to address issues, concerns and ideas. I am thankful for those before me who have lead the way. A special thank you to my superintendent, Ron Drzewicki for his flexibility and support in my time commitment to MSBO. I am also thankful for my husband Joe, and my best friend, who is my rock, and supports my independence and all my volunteer efforts. He keeps me grounded and is always there to provide guidance. So, with that, again I thank you for a wonderful year. It was my privilege and honor to serve as your 78th president. I am so proud to be associated with such an excellent organization. As I pass the gavel to Tamera Powers from Kenowa Hills Public Schools, the 79th President of MSBO, let me assure you that under Tamera’s leadership, the excellent MSBO staff, a committed MSBO Board of Directors, and members from across the state - MSBO will continue to be a great organization serving our members and Michigan’s school children. |
