I sent an email on the MSBO listservs recently reminding members to vote via absentee ballot if they plan to attend one of the MSBO pre-conferences on May 2 at the MSBO Annual Conference. Those special school district elections aren’t the only elections coming up this spring. MSBO’s Board of Directors Elections are scheduled for mid-April. The MSBO Nominations Committee unanimously selected five candidates for three open Board of Director positions, each with a three-year term. MSBO is very lucky to have qualified candidates who want to share their expertise and give back to this wonderful organization. My journey began with MSBO when I was selected to join a team at Tri County Area Schools 15 years ago. While serving on the By-Laws Committee, I received a phone call from Rob Burgess asking me if I would consider running for the MSBO Board. Yes, I too thought, “who me?” There are so many OTHER people with more experience. Realizing how much I knew MSBO assisted me when I began in school business, I knew it would be a pleasure to give back by providing my services to the organization. This is, however, an organization that no matter how much I give, I still receive more than I give. Your Board of Directors strives to continually improve the leadership of, and management in, school business and operational services. Any of this year’s candidates would be a great board director for MSBO. Please take the opportunity to read each candidate profile and get to know your MSBO candidates. And who knows, one day you may receive that phone call asking you if you are willing to serve and give back to MSBO by running for the Board of Directors. Don’t let that wonderful opportunity pass you by. |
